09 Sept 2014 / Wall Street Journal – EBay’s mobile payments division said it will begin processing payments in bitcoin. That means consumers may soon be able to use the virtual currency to pay for Uber rides and Airbnb rooms.
Braintree, which is owned by eBay, will roll out the capability in coming months, said CEO Bill Ready at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco on Monday. Merchants who use its payment processing software – including a host of buzzy startups like Uber, Airbnb and TaskRabbit – will be able to choose to accept the currency.
EBay will be the biggest e-commerce player to accept the currency, following Overstock.com, which has allowed bitcoin payments since earlier this year….. Read more
