02 Apr 2014 / Online Athens – Three sophomores at the University of Georgia are taking their knowledge of bitcoins and using it to help others.
Brandon Mintz is the founder of CashToCrypo LLC and said the Athens-based company is holding a bitcoin fundraiser for the families of the Boston firefighters who recently perished while battling a blaze.
“This week we will be personally donating 50 percent of our profits, up to $5,000, to help the families of these fallen heroes,” Mintz said.” We work as an agent for a larger company called Expresscoin and the CEO of that company has agreed to match our donations.”
Mintz, along with his two friends Conner Mckeeth and Harris Waqar, started the company in January. Mintz said the trio are looking to make the use of bitcoins easier and more widespread, while also giving back through fundraisers.
A bitcoin is an online currency allowing users to buy goods and services without involving third parties such as banks and credit card issuers.
“It’s produced in a form called mining. … When people mine it, the transactions are then added to a public ledger called a block chain that shows every transaction that’s been made,” said Mintz. “Currently it only costs five cents to send anywhere in the world.”…… Read more
