Yes, you’d get a strange look in most shops if you offered an invisible chunk of cryptographically-protected data at the till instead of a fiver, but an increasing number of businesses are adopting it. Here are ten ways to spend your bitcoins

1. Feeling peckish? Pop your postcode into takeaway.com and find out which of the 7,500 or so listed restaurants will deliver to your home, order online and pay in bitcoin.

2. Or, if you’re out and about, the Saw Mill Cafe inStratford, east London, will serve you a range of hot drinks and cakes baked on the premises in return for a few thousand satoshis (a satoshi is 0.00000001 of a bitcoin).

3. Want something stronger? There are several pubs around the country where you can exchange crypto-currency for booze, such as The White Lion in Norwich.
