"The goal is to gather together people interested in Bitcoin in the Sacramento region, not only to help beginners learn more about Bitcoin, but to network with local business owners and entrepreneurs who are interested in the technological advantages of Bitcoin," said Dan Fisher, organizer of the Sacramento Bitcoin Meetup.
The group will gather at 7 p.m. tonight at Capsity, 2572 21st St. in Sacramento. The meetup group began in June and has 47 members, according to Fisher.
Internet currency Bitcoin is "the first decentralized peer-to-peer payment network that is powered by its users with no central authority or middlemen," according to Bitcoin.org.
Fisher created Sacramento Bitcoin, an online directory of local businesses that accept the currency.
"As of today, I've tracked down 21 local businesses, spanning a wide range of industries, that currently accept Bitcoin along with traditional forms of payments," Fisher said Monday.
